Our Story
EJ and I met at a time when neither of us could have thought we would ever date. At the start of my junior year at Transy, I had just gotten out of a long-term relationship and was preparing to go abroad during my spring semester. As a first-year college student, EJ wasn’t exactly looking to jump into a serious relationship with an upperclassman. No one could have predicted how our relationship changed.
EJ quickly convinced me that there was more to him than just his extroverted, athletic, frat-star exterior. And I like to think I convinced him that I was more than just a type-A, over-achieving, nerd. Unfortunately, our time together abruptly ended when I went to London for a three- month study abroad program. During that time, each of us did some much needed soul searching, and eventually settled on remaining friends.
But after a semester and a summer a part, EJ and I decided that maybe there was still something between us. From that point forward, it was like we had never spent time a part at all. Between school, our friends, and swimming, we spent so much of our time together that anyone else might have gotten tired of us. But for whatever reason, we just clicked. As co- captains of the swim team we had to learn how to balance our relationship as friends, teammates, and as significant others.
One year later, I was starting law school and EJ was now a junior at Transy. I had no idea what it was going to be like attending different schools and having such crazy schedules. But it quickly became clear that we were going to do this whole thing together. I couldn’t have made it through law school without his constant love and support, and I attended every swim meet and fraternity function I could.
After three and a half years, I was graduating law school and EJ was in his first job out of college, when finally, he decided it was time to make his move. With the help of friends and family, EJ pulled off the most perfect proposal at the place where we probably spent the most of our time together, the Transy pool. And now he’s stuck with me forever.
