Burials have been made in the churchyard ever since the original church was built in the 17th century. the early graves were marked with wooden crosses, none of which still exist. the oldest of the 238 graves whose marker can still be seen is dated 1855. the graveyard is surrounded by a columbarium wall and lych gate entrance built in the 1970's. two magnificent bald cypress trees grow on the north and south sides of the church and were most likely planted when the present church was constructed.
